Celebrate Cyber Safety Month with Hax Attacks

On DadLabs we talk a lot about how parents can better protect kids online by deploying parental controls and e-proofing web connected devices. The problem is, no matter how much we protect our kids, sooner or later they end up online without a mom or dad around to virtually look out for them. That’s why it is so important that kids learn best practices for preserving their own Cyber Security.

Which is one of the many reasons why we are so excited to announce our latest partnership: working as ambassadors for a new game for iPad and iPhone called Hax Attacks.

What: Hax Attacks is a new mobile game application, and the first of its kind to combine gaming and cyber security education. The game is focused on trying to stop “Hax,” the evil cyber hacker. Created by international cyber expert William Pelgrin, Hax Attacks teaches people basic steps that can be taken to protect yourself, your family and friends from becoming a cyber-attack victim.

How: Throughout the game, players are presented with useful cyber security information that will benefit them in the “real world.” Concepts taught include:
–How and why you must construct strong passwords
–How to avoid phishing
–How to recognize potentially malicious websites
–How to protect your mobile device from malware

Why: The number of Americans impacted by a data breach has increased nearly 70 percent from 2010 to 2011, and incidences of cyber breaches continue to increase (Javelin Strategy & Research). According to FBI Director Robert Mueller, “Cyber espionage, computer crime and attacks on critical infrastructure will surpass terrorism as the number one threat facing the US.” Hax Attacks was created to help people learn about cyber safety in an entertaining and engaging way.

Availability: Hax AttacksTM is an app developed for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod devices and is available for download at Apple’s iTunes Store and costs $.99 for the iPhone and $1.99 for iPad.

There’s no better way to celebrate Cyber Security month with your kids than playing a cool game like Hax Attacks.

Keep an eye out tomorrow for the release of our Hax Attacks video, featuring our highly discerning in-house gaming critics!
